Two chances to sing along

Board member Peter Parisi belts out a tune with a live backing band during karaoke at the 2009 conference in Minneapolis.

Copy editors, we know your true talents lie in reading words on a screen -- then belting them out in front of a crowd of inebriated strangers. We know that many of you feel you're livin' on a prayer these days, but don't stop believin': The third annual ACES karaoke fest is happening.

So far, our elite team of bar-singing enthusiasts has gathered information about two possible venues.

The first, which features tunes on Friday night, is McGillin's, stage-tested by ACES board member Peter Parisi. At a mere quarter-mile from the Loews Hotel, you'll easily be able to stumble home.

The author and fellow ACES member Niko Dugan go all out in a stirring rendition of Bonnie Tyler's "Total Eclipse of the Heart" at the 2008 conference in Denver.

The second, which hosts its singing show on Saturday night, is a little bit farther away, but still walkable: Westy's Tavern, lauded by ACES board member Dan Hunt for its cheap drinks and Inquirer-linked clientele. Saturday karaoke makes for an ideal after-after party for the conference, but we wanted to present both options in case some of you felt like priming the pipes.

If anyone more familiar with the city has different or better suggestions, feel free to get in touch either with me or Peter, and word will be spread.

We look forward to embarrassing ourselves in front of you again this year!
